HUNDREDS of flights have been cancelled today due to strike action in Europe.
Air traffic control staff in Italy have walked out today, forcing airlines to cancel a number of flights.
The National Civil Aviation Authority of Italy said a number of flights would still operate between 7am and 10am and 6pm and 9pm.
However, flights to Italian hotspots such as Milan and Rome are expected to be disrupted today.
Ryanair confirmed that 600 flights have been cancelled to and from Italy, local media reported – affecting 110,000 passengers.
A spokesperson said: "All 110,000 affected Ryanair passengers have been notified of their options.”

“Ryanair sincerely apologizes to all passengers whose travel plans have been unfairly impacted by this strike by the Italian flight controllers.”
EasyJet has also cancelled a number of flights but has not confirmed how many.
EasyJet issued a statement on their website saying: "We have been informed of national strike action in Italy on Friday 21st October, which will affect air traffic control and ground handling services.
"Like most airlines operating to and from Italy, we may see some disruption to our flight schedules on this date.

"We advise anyone travelling to, from or within Italy on Friday 21st October to allow additional time to travel to and from the airport and to check the status of their flights on our Flight Tracker on our mobile app or website.
EasyJet has told passengers they will be contacted by email or by text if their flights are affected but to not travel to the airport if it is.
Italian flag carrier ITA has said they have been forced to cancel 200 flights, affecting destinations such as Rome and Milan.
Around 13 flights to and from London have been cancelled as well.
The airline said they were working on transferring any passengers affected by the cancellations onto other flights.
