Some iPhone owners could be eligible for a free repair after Apple spotted a rather annoying issue with one of its devices. It seems some versions of the latest iPhone 12 could have a problem when making or receiving calls with the small receiver that emits sound into the ear not working properly.
That could leave users unable to hear a conversation when using the device itself to chat with friends and family. Apple now says that anyone affected by the problem can get things fixed free of charge via the firm’s Service Programme.
In a post on its website, the US firm said: “Apple has determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro devices may experience sound issues due to a component that might fail on the receiver module. Affected devices were manufactured between October 2020 and April 2021.
“If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro does not emit sound from the receiver when you make or receive calls, it may be eligible for service.
“Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will service eligible devices, free of charge.”
Apple unveil their brand new purple iPhone 12
It’s worth noting that the glitch does not affect iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max models.
To get the problem solved, users can find a find an Apple Authorised Service Provider or make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store.
You can also contact Apple Support to arrange mail-in service via the Apple Repair Center.
This update comes as we’re expecting big news to be announced by Apple in the coming weeks. The company looks almost certain to reveal its next generation of smartphones in the autumn and September is the favoured month for the grand unveiling.
Some reports have suggested these refreshed iPhones could be on sale as soon as September 17 with experts speculating that they will feature better processors, improved cameras and a screen with a 120Hz refresh rate for faster scrolling.
If Apple is going to reveal all next month then we can expect invites to an online event to be pushed out to media very soon so watch this space if you’re thinking of treating yourself to a new iPhone.
