iPad owners are being treated to a duo of new apps this week which will make producing movies and music on the move a whole lot easier. Apple has confirmed that it is releasing versions of its premier Final Cut Pro video and Logic Pro audio software which have been designed exclusively for its tablets. These creative applications have, until now, only been available on desktop PCs and laptops but that all changes from May 23.
From tomorrow, iPad owners will be able to download these programmes and get full access to their plethora of premium editing tools. For example, Final Cut Pro offers features such as Scene Removal Mask which can replace the background behind a subject in a clip without using a green screen. There are also features such as Auto Crop which can adjust footage for vertical, square, and other aspect ratios plus users can reduce background noise with something called Voice Isolation. Another nice bonus is being able to use the Apple Pencil stylus to add hand-drawn graphics right on top of the action. That’s something that takes a lot more effort when using Final Cut Pro on a PC.
Along with video editing, there’s also that sound recording app as well. Logic Pro lets users create whole tracks from scratch with simple controls coming to the iPad which should make things faster.
This app gets Multi-Touch gestures allowing users to play instruments and interact naturally with controls. There’s also an all-new sound browser that uses dynamic filtering to help music creators discover the perfect sound.
For full controls, a featured mixer complete with channel strips, volume faders, pan controls, plug‑ins, sends, and precise automation can be loaded on the screen turning it into a mixing tablet on the move.

Express.co.uk recently had a preview of these apps in action and they are certainly impressive with Hollywood-style edits and music creation all possible within a matter of minutes.
The iPad’s touch screen makes things incredibly intuitive and the fact there’s a camera on the rear case and impressive mics tucked inside means content can be added and edited without needing any additional equipment.
One of the best parts of these apps is that Apple is offering them for free so you can give them a try without splashing out hundreds of pounds.
Once that initial period has ended, users will then be charged £4.99 per month, per app to continue using them.
Considering Final Cut Pro for Mac costs £299.99, that’s actually pretty good value. The only thing you need to remember is that Final Cut Pro only works on iPads that are powered by Apple’s M1 or M2 silicon. Logic Pro will be available on A12 Bionic chip iPad models or later
