Your BT bill could be about to increase but there is a simple way to beat the hike

BT customers who subscribe to Sport and TV bundles via the telecoms provider could soon see their monthly bills go up. The company has confirmed that some users will see things increase by up to £6 per month or £72 a year.

The hikes include an extra £2 per month for the cost of BT TV and £4 per month for some BT Sports packages.

Those affected by the new charges will be getting letters and emails in the coming days informing them of the update.

Not everyone is being given the bad news and even if you do get a message from BT arriving in your inbox there is a way of beating those additional and unwanted costs.

BT says that anyone unhappy with the new bills can leave penalty-free. The only caveat is that you must cancel your subscription before October 31 2020.

Explaining more about the pricing a BT spokesperson told MoneySavingExpert: “To continue investing in a quality viewing experience, we’ll be changing the prices of some of our BT TV and BT Sport packages for existing customers by £2 and £4 per month.

“Not all customers are affected, and many will find that our new, flexible TV packages offer them a better deal, with the freedom to upgrade, downgrade and add on content month-to-month, while offering a wide selection of the very best TV shows, films and sport.

“If customers are still unhappy with the change, they can leave their current contract penalty-free.”

There are some good deals on the market for TV and Sports with Virgin Media recently boasting that it is now the cheapest place to get BT Sport, Sky Sports and broadband access.

Virgin says that consumers often split their broadband and TV service between multiple providers which can be more expensive and inconvenient but it offers everything in one bundle.

Sky is also offering a price cut to new customers who sign up top both its sporting channels and BT Sport.

The deal currently costs £52 per month which is a saving of over 25 percent off the standard price. It includes over 207 live Premier League games plus access to F1, the Champions League plus cricket and golf action.
