You can finally edit WhatsApp messages with simple steps thanks to major update

WhatsApp will finally allow users to edit their sent messages, thanks to a long-awaited update.

WhatsApp users now have a 15-minute window in which to edit any messages they've sent, meaning you can now correct any mistakes you've made or take back something you regret sending.

The app will tell your contacts that you've edited a message by displaying a small 'edited' sign next to it, although it won't show an edit history so nobody will know what you've actually changed.

The feature has begun rolling out to WhatsApp users globally so you should expect to see it on your phone in the next few weeks.

Just make sure you're using the latest version of the app so that you definitely get the update.

In a statement, WhatsApp said: "From correcting a simple misspelling to adding extra context to a message, we're excited to bring you more control over your chats.

"All you need to do is long-press on a sent message and choose 'Edit' from the menu for up to fifteen minutes after.

"Edited messages will display 'edited' alongside them, so those you're messaging are aware of the correction without showing edit history."

To edit your sent messages, all you have to do is long-press on any message you've sent then tap 'Edit' on the menu that pops up.

You'll then be able to alter any text you've sent quickly and easily.

WhatsApp was notable for being one of the few messaging apps without an edit button or function.

It only recently began letting users 'unsend' messages, which would completely remove a message from a chat rather than allowing you to correct it.
