Xbox Live down with Xbox One gamers frustrated they can’t play Gears 5

Xbox Live servers are down – with gamers left frustrated due to sign-in errors at a pretty key time.

The problems started around 1am British time with Microsoft confirming the problems.

It comes on the day Gears 5 and NBA 2K20 are launched, with many claiming the new game has helped crash the system.

In fact many are bemoaning the fact that can't even play the single-player version of the newly downloaded – and hotly-anticipated – shoot 'em up.

Other games that are said to be not working include Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA 5, Apex Legends, Fortnite, EA Sports FIFA, PUBG.

Microsoft tweeted: "Our teams are aware & currently investigating errors when attempting to sign in. We'll update here & on our status page:  http://xbox.com/status  when we have more info to share."

A message on the server status page also adds: "Our engineers and developers are actively continuing to work to resolve the issue causing some members to have problems finding previously-purchased content or purchasing new content.

"Stay tuned, and thanks for your patience."

The page stated Xbox One as the affected platform.

Gears of War 5 is the hotly-anticipated new shooter game – given four stars in the Mirror review.

Many gamers have taken to social media to voice their frustration that they can't play it.

One said: "All I wanna do is play Gears 5, and Xbox Live is down…"

Another wrote: "Any idea what's causing Xbox Live to be down rn? I can't login to my Microsoft account on any of my other devices."

And another said: "Xbox Live is down. I want to play Gears 5 coop with my friends. That's all. I'm not asking for much here."

And they weren't the only ones…

Others are reporting that those who signed on to Xbox Live before it went down are still on the system.

Core services are now said to have been down for one to two hours – and the natives are getting restless.
