It’s a big day for Windows 10 fans. Microsoft will take to the stage in the Big Apple later today where it’s expected to discuss its operating system and announce a raft of new Surface devices.
The American tech giant is tipped to reveal a new Surface Pro, Surface Laptop, and an ARM-based Surface. It’s also possible fans could be treated to its long-rumoured dual-screen Surface, codenamed Centaurus.

And on the Windows 10 side of things, it’s anticipated Microsoft will unveil its new 19H2 update in full. The firm has already rolled-out numerous preview builds of the new software to its loyal set of Insiders.
Windows 10 19H2 doesn’t look set to substantially overhaul Microsoft’s established operating system. Instead, it’s expected the software will introduce a set of more nuanced refinements.
In fact, by Microsoft’s own admission, the newest version of Windows 10 will “include a scoped set of features for select performance improvements, enterprise features, and quality enhancements”.
That said, the new operating system version does look set to improve the battery life of some PCs – an addition that will surely be welcomed by many laptop owners.
A few changes have been made to Windows Shell – the graphical interface that forms Windows 10’s design – in 19H2, such as the ability to add new events to the Calendar app using its fly-out menu.
Windows 10’s trusty File Explorer has also been revamped. The tool will now be able to find files stored locally and in the cloud.
The Redmond-based firm’s newest software build will also allow users to access third-party assistants from a computer’s lock screen. This means you can summon the likes of Amazon’s Alexa rather than being limited to Cortana.
Last, but certainly not least, Windows 10 19H2 is expected to quash a number of bugs that have manifested themselves in Microsoft’s May 2019 Update.
Why do we think Microsoft will unveil its latest operating system today? Well, quite simply, because the firm did the same at a similarly scheduled Surface hardware event that was also held on October 2 last year.
Back then, the American firm announced the rollout of its aptly titled October 2018 Update.
