Windows 10 continues to be the most used operating system on the planet with Microsoft recently confirming that over 1.3 billion devices now have it installed. That’s a monumental number and it seems these vast number of users are about to be treated to a massive upgrade. Microsoft is currently hosting its Build conference this week which is aimed at giving developers a glimpse of what’s come later this year.
This event rarely reveals anything exciting for consumers but this year has been very different.
Although nothing new has actually been revealed just yet, Microsoft boss Satya Nadella has teased that Windows 10 is about to undergo one of its biggest changes in a very long time.
In fact, the CEO says this will be, “one the most significant updates to Windows of the past decade.”
And don’t think for one minute that this will be another upgrade with bug fixes and a few new features as Nadella is calling this the “next-generation of Windows” suggesting some pretty big changes are inbound.
Microsoft announce the Windows 10 update
There’s no word on when this new operating system will be announced but Microsoft has said that consumers should expect to hear more news soon.
In a statement posted by The Verge Nadella said: “Soon we will share one of the most significant updates to Windows of the past decade to unlock greater economic opportunity for developers and creators.
“I’ve been self-hosting it over the past several months, and I’m incredibly excited about the next generation of Windows. Our promise to you is this: we will create more opportunity for every Windows developer today and welcome every creator who is looking for the most innovative, new, open platform to build and distribute and monetise applications. We look forward to sharing more very soon.”
We’ll hopefully find out more soon but if you simply can’t wait to update your PC then there is more good news.
The latest update to Windows 10 is now available to download on all PCs worldwide. Dubbed the Windows 10 May 2021 Update, this is the first of two planned upgrades set to release to Windows 10 users this year.
If you want to update Windows 10 now, head to the Start (Windows) button in the bottom-left corner of the screen, then find the Settings icon. Next up, click Update & Security > Windows Update. Then, choose the Check For Updates button.
