The hashtag #SaveTheChildren was temporarily blocked on Facebook after it was linked to a baseless QAnon theory that there’s a “deep-state” with ties to a child sex trafficking ring, according to reports.
Searches for the hashtag Wednesday returned a message that stated that it was “temporarily hidden” because it went against the social media site’s “community standards,” heavy.com reported.
The hashtag was being attached to disturbing photos and pages involving children, the outlet said, adding that additional hashtags associated with QAnon are also sometimes included with the #SaveTheChildren hashtag.
In one post with the #SaveTheChildren hashtag, the user shared a photo of actor Tom Hanks’ star on Hollywood Boulevard that had been altered to call him a “pedophile.”
But the move prompted dozens of Facebook users to hit out at the social media giant, alleging that the company was censoring the truth and protecting pedophiles.
“IT’S TRUE YALL !! #SaveTheChildren is banned on Fakebook,” wrote one person, alongside a screenshot showing the hashtag was hidden to keep the Facebook community safe.
“You can censor us but it won’t stop the truth,” they added.
Another Facebook user urged others to “open your eyes.”
“Sooooo Facebook banned #SaveTheChildren,” she wrote. “Are you flipping kidding me!!! OPEN YOUR EYES PEOPLE!!!!!!”
The hashtag appeared to be active again on Thursday. It’s unclear how long it had been censored.
Facebook didn’t immediately respond to request for comment.
