Virgin Media has been very proactive over the last few weeks. Since the country went into lockdown, the telecoms firm has dished out numerous updates including offering free minutes to all mobile customers to contact loved ones and Wi-Fi calling at no extra cost – so you can keep in touch even if you’re stuck somewhere without a signal.
However, the latest announcement from Virgin Media is easily its best yet with the company revealing that it’s handing out TV subscribers a total of 18 premium channels to binge on without adding a penny to their monthly bills.
This upgrade will last until May 2 and includes Comedy Central, MTV, TCM and Discovery. Across these free channels, Virgin Media TV V6 customers will find a range of shows including War of the Worlds and NCIS, Only Fools & Horses and Gavin & Stacey and Gold Rush and Wheeler Dealer.
This follows news that Virgin Media has also given its TV customers free access to a number of top kids TV channels such as Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon until April 12, 2020.
The full line up of extra channels for families to enjoy includes – Comedy Central • DMAX • Discovery • FOX • Gold • Box Hits • Kerrang • Kiss • Magic • ID • Lifetime • MTV • TCM • TLC • Rishtey • Rishtey Cineplex • Sony SAB • Colors

Along with these visual updates, Virgin says it’s working hard to make sure its broadband network survives the onslaught of so many people working from home with its army of technicians and support teams keeping an eye on its service and performance to make sure it can respond to extra traffic.
Although this all good news for customers it’s worth noting that Virgin is asking all customers to avoid making calls to its call centres. This is due to some needing to be closed whilst the virus outbreak continues.
Announcing the news in an email sent out to users Lutz Schüler CEO, Virgin Media, said: “As the world reacts and adapts to the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, we’re working day and night to make sure your services run smoothly. Unfortunately, virus quarantine measures have now closed some of our call centres. This is having a big impact on our customers’ waiting times, for which we’re truly sorry.
“We’re currently taking steps to increase resources and make sure we answer calls as soon as we can. But it’s incredibly busy, and only getting busier.
“That’s why, for the first time ever, we’re asking that our customers work with us and only call if they have an urgent query that can’t wait.
“This is hard for us, and frustrating for you. We really appreciate your patience and understanding as we prioritise helping our most vulnerable customers. Thanks for bearing with us, and please take care.”
