WhatsApp users can now give this popular chat app a fresh new look thanks to a major update rolling out this week on Android and iPhone. The Facebook-owned firm says that it is releasing an upgrade that includes all-new background wallpapers to help spruce things up on the screen. As well as adding some style to your chats there’s another advantage as WhatsApp has included a way to assign unique designs to individual chats.

This customised feature means you can have a different look for your most important chats and favourite people.

Along with adding a bit of bling to your conversions, WhatsApp also says this should help to distinguish between people and avoid sending the wrong messages in the wrong chat – that should save some blushes.

Another nice change is that you can now set a separate wallpaper in dark mode for the best chat experience. This basically means your chat wallpaper will automatically transition as your device setting switches from light to dark mode.

WhatsApp introduce new features including animated stickers

With WhatsApp serving over 2 billion users around the planet the chat app says it has also selected new, diverse, and iconic images of nature and architecture from around the world, as well as eye-catching new designs to suit all taste and areas.

So that’s the news on wallpapers but there is more coming from WhatsApp with an update to stickers.

Once the update is available users will be able to easily search and find their stickers with text or emoji or browse through common sticker categories.

The World’s Health Organization’s “Together at Home” sticker pack is also now available as animated stickers.

Together at Home has been one of the most popular sticker packs across WhatsApp, and will now be even more expressive and useful in its animated form.

There’s no word on when everyone will get this upgrade with WhatsApp simply saying that it is rolling out across the world in the coming days.

This latest update from WhatsApp follows on from two other big changes to this app.

First came the news that the Facebook-owned firm is making it easier to rid devices of unwanted files and photos via a new storage setting. This allows users to find and remove content that could be filling up their phone’s precious memory.

WhatsApp then announced that it was launching the much talked about disappearing messages option. This update will arrive on phones in the coming weeks and allows users to send a message which will then self destruct after 7 days.
