Facebook’s new look has been getting mocked since it was unveiled on Monday — including by Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.
The social networking giant, plagued by privacy scandals and anti-trust probes, revealed a colorful new company logo on Monday that has drawn jeers for being in all-caps, which is Internet code for shouting. Critics have blasted the rebranding, which imposes the all-caps, kaleidoscope logo on its sister properties, Instagram and WhatsApp, which will get a new “from FACEBOOK” stamp.
The move had already drawn thousands of joke-cracking tweets before Dorsey joined the fray on Tuesday with a shot at his much larger rival.
“Twitter,” he tweeted, “from TWITTER.”
The tweet drew more than 15,000 likes and 2,300 retweets, and inspired tweeters to copy his formatting and send out quips of their own.
Dorsey’s crack was the latest move in recent days by the Twitter boss to take a swing at its big blue rival. Last week, moments before Facebook was due to report its quarterly earnings, Dorsey announced that Twitter would no longer allow political advertising on its platform.
Dorsey made the announcement as Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was facing intense criticism from politicians on the company’s decision to allow politicians to lie in ads and refusing to take down misleading attacks.
“Paying to increase the reach of political speech has significant ramifications that today’s democratic infrastructure may not be prepared to handle,” Dorsey wrote.
