Twitter employees’ internal meltdown over ‘f***ing exhausting’ Musk takeover

Twitter employees are having a meltdown over the news that Elon Musk is going to buy the company after all, following a year of drama about their future.

Staff at the company have tweeted their dismay at the takeover. Rumman Chowdhury, the director of Twitter's ethics team, said: "Living the plot of Succession is f**king exhausting" and complained that her colleagues are going to have to 'collectively ignore what's going on'.

One staffer, Parker Lyons, tweeted a meme of someone 'planning' 2023 with the caption: 'this is worthless'.

Meanwhile, another team member, EJ Samson, wrote: "I encourage every Twitter employee to go outside and take a walk."

On internal chat forums, employees were even more bereft. According to CNN, one anonymous staffer wrote on a message board: "cue the layoffs".

The staff comments come after Elon Musk U-turned on his U-turn and announced he is buying Twitter after all.

Musk pulled out of a £38bn deal to buy Twitter in summer after claiming the company had misrepresented how many 'fake accounts' there are on the platform.

This followed months of uncertainty for Twitter staff who were faced with a full takeover by Musk earlier this year.

Since claiming he wants to move forward with the buyout yesterday, Musk has already been hinting at his plans for the company.

In a cryptic tweet yesterday, he said: "Buying Twitter is an accelerant to creating X, the everything app".

He gave no additional details on what this app would look like, but Musk has previously talked positively about WeChat, the Chinese social network that combines messaging, payments, and social media into a single platform.

When he first approached the company about a buyout, he told Twitter chairman Bret Taylor he wanted to unlock the firm's 'extraordinary potential' and make it a platform for 'free speech around the globe'.
