This Futuristic Camper Is Like Nothing Else You’ve Seen Before

Camping has traditionally been about paring life down to the basics: a tent, some sleeping bags, maybe some camping chairs if you want to go the extra mile. Not anymore.

The Romotow camper takes the futuristic RV concept to the next level, providing a seriously innovative and high-tech experience to what used to be a pretty simple mode of travel.

From architecture and design firm W2 out of Christchurch, New Zealand, the sleek Romotow camper has a lot of great features, but what sets it apart is its ability to swivel open at the push of a button to reveal an open synthetic teak deck, increasing the living space by 70 percent. It’s basically the kind of trailer The Jetsons would have.

It’s unlike any other RV model out there and has been in the works since 2012. According to various reports, W2 is close to officially launching the completed version and is now accepting pre-orders.

When closed, the Romotow measures 30 feet by 8.5 feet and offers 290 square feet of living space, the equivalent of a lot of small apartments these days. Preliminary drawings from W2 depict a streamlined interior with a bathroom and kitchen area dividing two living areas–a master bedroom on one side and a dining room or second bedroom depending on the client’s preference on the other.

Because this cool camper will definitely be your home away from home, it has a lot of amenities to keep you comfortable. The master bedroom features a wall-mounted television, while the kitchen boasts a sink, microwave and cabinetry.

When the Romotow is open the deck stays covered by the camper’s frame, creating the ultimate outdoor/indoor living space, ideal for relaxing in the night air or entertaining your crew of camping trip buddies in style. Hey, it’s even the perfect place to set up those camping chairs.
