Samsung Galaxy Note 9 retail box leaked online

The supposed retail boxing of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 9 smartphone has leaked ahead of the device’s launch later this week and it reveals the phone’s full specifications.

It comes via Dmitriy Ryabinin, head of Russian Internet company Mail.ru, who took to Twitter to reveal an image of a spec listing on the box’s rear.

If the leak’s authentic, it confirms what a lot of rumours and predictions had already suggested in the run up to the launch, that the phone will sport a bigger 6.4imn QHD+ Super AMOLED screen over the previous model, alongside 128GB of internal storage and a massive 4,000mAh battery.

In terms of camera, the box specs list tells us it will boast a 12MP dual-lens rear snapper, with one lens sporting an f/2.4 aperture and the other being able to switch between f/1.5 and f/2.4; the same camera setup that was seen on the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus.

It also suggests that the included S Pen stylus will now be able to double as a remote control.

Other specs mentioned in the leaked marketing material include the same AKG-tuned speakers as found on the Galaxy S9, which uses the earpiece as part of the stereo speakers, as well as an iris scanner, IP68 water and dust protection. Samsung Pay and wireless charging are also supported, it says.

Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy Note 9 will make its debut at on 9 August at a Samsung Unpacked event in New York, before it goes on sale two weeks later on 24 August. The launch will be live-streamed with the event set to kick off at 4pm UK time.

In terms of design, rumours have so far suggested that the handset looks very similar to last year’s Galaxy Note 8, with an almost edgeless display, and very slim top and bottom bezels.

Other leaks have claimed the back of the device will have a fingerprint scanner – although this has been moved to below the camera, rather than next to it, as is the case with the Note 8.

According to reports earlier this year, such as those from German tech site WinFuture , pricing for the Galaxy Note 9 will start from €1,050 (£935), which will get you the 128GB variant. The highest-spec 512GB model will reportedly cost as much as €1,250 (£1,115).

However, a leaked pre-order poster from Indonesia claims the 128GB and 512GB models will fetch around £714 and £926 SIM-free, respectively.

So expect the phone to retail for something somewhere in the middle.
