After weeks of turmoil, including the possible ban from future Google updates, there’s some good news for P20 Pro owners.
Huawei has confirmed that a new update is being pushed out to owners which will bring a number of notable new features to this 2019 flagship.
The latest EMUI 9.1 operating system will arrive this month and perhaps its best upgrade is something called GPU Turbo 3.0.
This option improves gaming performance by increasing frame rates and also ensuring hardware stays at a reasonable temperature.
Moreover, 9.1 also allows the Huawei product to showcase icons for third-party notification on a device’s always-on display.
The new version of the skin also brings incremental improvements such as an altered settings menu.
According to recent reports, the Huawei P20 Lite started getting this EMUI 9.1 update last week with the Mate 20 Pro expected to start receiving the download from July 24.
Along with this update, there’s more good news for those thinking of investing in P20 Pro with prices cut continuing.
Some of the cheapest SIM-only deals come from Amazon and Debenhams Plus who are both selling the P20 Pro for just £449 – that’s a saving of over £300 off the original price.
There’s also some good contract deals with Fonehouse currently offering £500 cashback on this device.
Once the cashback is paid fans pay just 23.17 per month which includes 5GB of data and unlimited calls plus text.
If you want more monthly internet access then there’s a deal which includes 30GB of data for just £25.50.
Although the P20 Pro and Honor View20 both offer some very good value for money, buyers should be aware of the current climate that surrounds Huawei and its phones.
The Chinese firm was recently placed on a blacklist which means US firms, including Google, are being blocked from working with the company.
Although this ban is now under review there’s no confirmation that Huawei will get future Android updates from Google which is clearly a concern if you are considering buying one.

They have also confirmed that devices should get access to Android Q and will continue to be kept secure via security updates although it’s unclear what Google changes will be pushed out to Huawei phones next year.
