Oppo showed off the Reno 3 Pro during its scheduled Innovation Day at its shiny new Shenzhen headquarters earlier this week. The device is most striking for its gradient colour scheme that seamlessly transitions from a bright red to purple and blue depending on the angle light strikes it.
If you’re losing count of new Oppo Reno phones, we don’t blame you. The Chinese tech giant unveiled the original Reno earlier this year, of which the most premium version comes with an innovative 5x optical zoom à la Huawei P30 Pro.
And it was only back in October Oppo showed off the Reno 2, a more wallet-friendly version of the regular Reno that comes with less powerful specs. The phone isn’t a true successor to the original Reno… confusing, we know.
So where does that leave the Reno 3 Pro? Well, Oppo seems to be positioning the device as their next full fat flagship, although the firm made it clear it’ll only be releasing in China for now.
Interestingly, Oppo has decided to ditch the Reno’s signature “shark-fin” style pop-up camera system with the Reno 3. Instead, the device comes with a hole-punch cutout within its display that houses a single front-facing camera, just like Samsung’s Galaxy S10, only this time you’ll find it positioned on the left-hand side of the device.
Oppo has also decided to curve the sides of the Reno 3’s display, something it hasn’t done on a flagship since the Find X.
On the rear of the Reno 3 Pro, you’ll find a quad-camera system, although Oppo has remained silent on the specs for each sensor. However, it’s confirmed the hardware will once again boast its Ultra Steady video feature it made a big song and dance about with the launch of the Reno 2.
Oppo has announced the Reno 3 Pro will be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 765 chipset that was unveiled earlier this month.
While not as powerful as the Snapdragon 865, the 765 is certainly no slouch and also comes with an integrated 5G modem that’ll allow it to deliver next-generation network speeds.
It’s currently unclear if Oppo will sell the Reno 3 Pro in a 4G-only variant, just like it did with the Reno 10x Zoom earlier this year.
We do know the Chinese tech giant will offer a standard Reno alongside the Reno 3 Pro that’ll come with a tiny notch at the top of its display instead of a hole-punch. It’s expected this handset will make other compromises but have a lower price tag.
Although Oppo briefly showed off the Reno 3 Pro this week, there’s still so much we don’t know about the device. It’s unclear what the device will cost, if Oppo has plans to bring it to markets outside China and when it’ll release. We don’t have a full spec sheet, either.
But of course, Express.co.uk will update you once we know more about Oppo’s latest and greatest.
