Onlyfans clamps down on influencers posting some types of porn

OnlyFans has announced that it will be tightening controls over the pornographic content that its creators are allowed to post.

The infamous social media site – which recently launched a ‘suitable for work’ app version – will start enforcing the rules in October.

The decision comes after its finanical backers reportedly pressured the site to reign the amount of pornography posted there.

OnlyFans says creators can continue to share naked content ‘as long as it is consistent with our Acceptable Use Policy,’ which prohibits specific explicit content such as rape, torture, revenge porn and sex trafficking.

A spokesperson told the Daily Mail: ‘In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of our platform, and the continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines.’

OnlyFans pulls in over 130 million users a month who log in to see exclusive content from the likes of ex-porn star Mia Khalifa and former Playboy bunny Holly Madison.

Actress Bella Thorne also uses the platform to post content to her fans.

What makes OnlyFans popular with creators is they receive payment directly from their followers, or ‘fans’, who can either send tips or pay a subscription. Creators can also make bespoke content that individual or groups of fans are willing to pay for.

When Throne joined the platform, she told Paper magazine: ‘OnlyFans is the first platform where I can fully control my image; without censorship, without judgement, and without being bullied online for being me.’

But the decision to limit the amount of porn on the site may come from OnlyFans’ inability to raise outside investment.

According to an Axios report, the site is struggling for funds because venture capitalist firms are uncomfortable about investing and brand partnering with certain types of pornographic material.

OnlyFans was founded by CEO Tim Stokely in 2016 it now boasts over two million content creators.
