Germany's annual Gamescom convention hasn't always lived up to the hype – but this year, the three-day event is already delivering the goods on some huge titles coming out over the next year.
Last night's opening event saw major announcements about more than 40 games coming out on both Xbox, Playstation, and PC – including fan favourites Call of Duty: Vanguard, Halo: Infinite, and Sony's Horizon: Forbidden West.

First gameplay revealed from new World War 2 epic Call of Duty: Vanguard
You might be losing count of the number of Call of Duty games set in World War Two by now, but the gameplay premiere of Call of Duty: Vanguard last night looks to be an absolute belter.
The campaign footage shows players take up the mantle of character Polina Petrova during the first hours of the brutal Battle of Stalingrad.
It begins with a horror-movie esque stealth sequence in a ruined block of flats as Polina desperately tries to find her sniper rifle. Watch the full footage here.

Familiar mechanics from Modern Warfare and Warzone crop up, with stealth takedowns of enemies and a mounted weapon cover system.
Call of Duty: Vanguard is set to have one of the most extensive single-player campaigns of the series so far, and will include its own version of fan favourite Zombies as well as integrations with Warzone.
It's due for a November 5th release on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC – but players can sign up to an alpha demo of the game this weekend.
The long-awaited Halo: Infinite gets official release date and juicy new trailer
It hasn't been an easy ride for Bungie's flagship Xbox series.
Ever since it was first announced way back in 2018, Halo: Infinite has been plagued by issues and delays – but now, the game finally has a firm release date. Master Chief's latest adventure will be dropping a year late into stores and online from 8th December 2021.
While the footage looks much more promising than its rather creaky debut last summer, the game will be missing several key features at launch including campaign co-op and the user creation tool, Forge.
You'll just have to make do with its mammoth Big Team multiplayer battle mode in the meantime.
Horizon: Forbidden West set for release in February 2022
While we didn't get to see any new footage of the sequel to the PS4's landmark game, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Playstation fans did get a sweetener on the Gamescom opening night. Developer Guerilla Games has now confirmed that Horizon: Forbidden West will be hitting the shelves in February of 2022.
What's more, they've just released a 60fps patch for PS5 players, so you can replay the original while you wait.
