Nestle pulls YouTube ads after they appear next to disturbing videos of children

Several firms including Nestle and Epic Games have made the decision to pull their adverts from YouTube , after they appeared next to disturbing videos of children.

The issue was first flagged by YouTuber, Matt Watson, in a video titled ‘Youtube is Facilitating the Sexual Exploitation of Children, and it’s Being Monetized’.

Mr Watson claims that YouTube makes it ‘easy’ to find videos of young children in compromising positions, including in front of a mirror and performing gymnastics.

And worryingly, YouTube’s algorithm is recommending similar videos, which run with ads from firms including Epic Games and Nestle.

Speaking to the BBC , a spokesperson for Nestle said that the firm has decided to ‘pause’ its adverts while it investigates the issue.

She said: "We will revise our decision upon completion of current measures being taken … to ensure Nestlé advertising standards are met.”

Speaking to Mirror Online, a spokesperson for YouTube said: "Any content – including comments – that endangers minors is abhorrent and we have clear policies prohibiting this on YouTube.

"We took immediate action by deleting accounts and channels, reporting illegal activity to authorities and disabling violative comments.

"There’s more to be done, and we continue to work to improve and catch abuse more quickly."
