Now could be a very good time for millions of UK homes to check their broadband contracts. As you’re probably well aware, Black Friday begins tomorrow, November 25, with most of the UK’s biggest Internet Service Providers slashing prices in a bid to lure customers over to their latest money-saving deals. The same thing happens each November and that means some broadband users may find their current Black Friday deals are suddenly coming to end.

Almost all ISPs demand that new customers sign up for two-year deals and anyone who took out a new contract in the 2020 Black Friday sales could be about to face a very nasty bill shock. Once an initial offer ends, prices automatically rise and some hikes can be pretty substantial.

For example, Virgin Media is currently offering fast 300Mbps broadband for just £27 per month but as soon as the deal ends that cost rockets to £56 per month – that’s a £29 difference.

Unless you check your monthly direct debits it’s easy to miss these huge price hikes and anyone who thinks they signed up for broadband during a previous Black Friday sale would be wise to see how much they are now paying.

Luckily, if your deal has expired there are plenty of new offers that have gone live in this year’s Black Friday sale.

BT is offering customers internet access for half the usual cost and Sky has launched a discount that features its lowest-ever price.

There are also some tempting free gifts to be grabbed with TalkTalk dishing out Amazon Prime for a whole year (worth £95) and Plusnet giving away gift cards worth up to £75 when customers join.

Of course, to get these deals you will need to be out of your current deal but it’s definitely worth checking your paperwork as you could find you save yourself some serious money.

Speaking about the importance of shopping around for a new deal Catherine Hiley, telecoms expert at Uswitch.com, said: “Black Friday is one of the biggest shopping events of the year for retailers and a time when they bring out some of their best deals. Savvy shoppers can grab a bargain on their broadband, mobiles and TV packages, so long as they know what they’re looking for.

“Don’t forget that Black Friday now extends far beyond one day, and you can expect plenty of providers to be offering discounts ahead of the 25 November. Keep an eye out for deals now and monitor any changes in price so you’re ready to pounce.”
