Microsoft’s new Surface Duo is a bendy smartphone with a very stiff price

Microsoft's dual-screen Surface Duo was released across the pond last year and now the US tech firm is finally ready to unleash this radical call maker here in the UK.

This foldable phone arrived in stores this week with those buying one treated to a pretty unique device that features a clamshell design which opens like a book.

Once unfolded you get an 8.3-inch style tablet which is aimed at people who want the ultimate multitasking experience. You can even run two separate apps at the same time on these double displays or play with one app and use the other screen as a keyboard or game controller.

Unlike previous phones from Microsoft, the Duo is powered by Android allowing fans to gain access to millions of apps and games from Google's Play Store. Other extras include an all-day battery, fingerprint scanner and speedy Qualcomm Snapdragon processor.

There's also a single camera which can shoot images in low light and record video in 4K quality. Although there's plenty to be excited about it's worth noting that the Surface Duo doesn't have a screen on the front which means you have to open it to see your messages or respond to emails.

It's also very, very expensive with anyone wanting to own the Duo needing £1,349 in their bank account. Ouch!

If £1,349 sounds a bit rich then check out what's coming next from Motorola. The new Moto G10 and G30 cost under £170 and don't think that budget price means bargain bucket specs. The £159 Moto G30 features a silky smooth 6.5-inch screen with 90Hz refresh rate, massive two-day battery and quad-rear camera with clever night mode.

Fast charging also means you'll get 12 hours of power with 20 minutes plugged into the mains. The cheaper £129 G10 also gets a 6.5-inch screen, monster battery life and 64GB of expandable storage. Both are out this month.
