Mate 30 Pro leaked images reveal new Huawei phone from every angle

Mate 30 Pro is the next flagship smartphone from Huawei. The Shenzhen-based company will unveil the next-generation handset later this week in the German city of Munich on Thursday, September 19.

However, Huawei fans eagerly awaiting news of the phone can already see it from every angle courtesy of leaked marketing material posted by a reliable online tipster.

Notable leakster Evan Blass recently shared an image on Twitter that claims to show the design of the Mate 30 Pro – complete with a new, circular, camera system on its rear and an all-screen design on its front.

Just like the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, the Mate 30 Pro is shown with a notch at the top of its display that will presumably house an array of facial scanning technologies.

The Mate 30 Pro’s screen looks set to use “waterfall” technology which allows the display to curve around the side of the handset. These curves are expected to be more prominent than on other flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S10 or Huawei P30 Pro.

Apart from looking more aesthetically pleasing, it is unclear whether this new “waterfall” design choice will tote any functional benefits for users.

In terms of specifications, Slashleaks contributor RODENT950 claims the new device will come with a panel sized between 6.6 and 6.8-inches.

While the leaker did not specify what kind of refresh rate to expect from the OLED display, he did declare it will have a resolution of 1176×2400.

In terms of its rear camera system, the Mate 30 Pro will purportedly flaunt a 40-megapixel primary shooter, a 40-megapixel ultra wide angle lens, an 8-megapixel telephoto module and a time-of-flight (ToF) sensor.

Most notably, it’s claimed the telephoto snapper would offer a three-times optical zoom which, if true, would be lower than that of the P30 Pro that launched earlier this year. The P30 Pro offers a five-times optical zoom and a ten-times hybrid zoom that uses AI to fill-in the gaps.

On the front, the new handset is expected to house a whopping three front-facing cameras within its notch.

In addition to a 32-megapixel main selfie shooter, the Mate 30 Pro is said to flaunt an additional ultra wide-angle snapper and another ToF lens.

Internally, Huawei has already confirmed the flagship will be powered by its new Kirin 990 processor which was formally unveiled at German tradeshow IFA earlier this month.

RODENT950 has claimed the phone will back up its next-generation chipset with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

Most notably, the leaker said the hardware will come pre-installed with Huawei’s EMUI 10 software based on Android 10.

However, it’s claimed the phone will not have access to Google apps due to the ongoing United States trade ban with Huawei, which prohibits American companies working with the firm.

Essentially, the Mate 30 Pro is expected to run open-source Android but not have access to Google services or apps such as the Play Store, Gmail, Maps and more.

While it is anticipated most of these programmes could be accessed through a browser, this would provide an inherently worse experience than that offered by a traditional app.

It’s highly likely such an omission would severely dent the sales potential of the Mate 30 Pro.

In addition to leaking marketing material for the Mate 30 Pro, Evan Blass also showcased what appear to be official shots of a forthcoming Porsche tie-in with the Mate 30 Pro too.

Huawei has a long-standing partnership with Porsche. The smartphone manufacturer released a special edition of its Mate 20 Pro flagship last year with Porsche-themed branding.

Just like the regular Mate 30 Pro, the Porsche Design variants look to have the same four cameras on the rear and noticeable curvature around the display.
