LEGO Just Announced a New Pride Month-Themed ‘Everyone Is Awesome’ Set

LEGO has announced a new Pride Month-themed set titled ‘Everyone is Awesome’, a spin on the insanely catchy song from The LEGO Movie.

Releasing on June 1, the first day of the officially-recognized Pride Month, the set features the modern incarnation of the LGBTQ+ flag that includes stripes for transgender people and people color. The figures are designed to not have a specific gender, except for the purple figure which is meant to represent drag queens.

At the time of writing, the product page doesn’t have a pre-order button, but it does tell us that it will retail for $35.

You might also notice that the set is marked as 18+. The company have been doing this lately with certain products that are either more intricate or designed more as ornaments than toys (like this Winnie the Pooh set).

Designer Matthew Ashton says he originally created the set for his own desk, telling The Guardian that: “Other members of Lego’s LGBTQ+ community came by to tell me they loved it, so I thought, ‘maybe it’s something we should share’.

“Growing up as an LGBTQ+ kid – being told what I should play with, how I should walk, how I should talk, what I should wear – the message I always got was that somehow I was ‘wrong’… I wish I’d seen an inclusive statement that said ‘everyone is awesome’.”

The LEGO Group haven’t publicly stated how much (if any) money from this set will be donated to LGBTQ+ charities or causes – beyond the usual 25% to the LEGO Foundation – but the company has stated that they have partnered with Workplace Pride, Stonewall and Open for Business, and “supports” the charity Diversity Role Models.
