Keanu Reeves makes surprise appearance at E3 to reveal Cyberpunk 2077 video game

Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves made a surprise appearance at the E3 2019 video game expo yesterday, revealing that he will be starring in a new game called Cyberpunk 2077.

The futuristic first-person action game, which is due to be released on 16 April 2020, is set in Night City – a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour, and body modification.

The player takes on the role of V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality.

The player can customise their character's cyberware, skillset, and playstyle and explore a vast city where the choices they make shape the story and the world around them.

Reeves's character is called Johnny Silverhand – an iconic character from the original Cyberpunk 2020  tabletop role-playing game by Mike Pondsmith, which was released in 1988.

However, the look of Cyberpunk 2020 and Cyberpunk 2077 couldn't be more different, with the latter much more attuned to our modern vision of a future dystopian society.

In an official trailer , shown during the Xbox E3 2019 press conference , a deal involving the player character goes bad.

After getting brutalised inside an apartment, he is dumped in a junkyard outside the city limits.

That's when Silverhand shows up, reboots the player, and invites him to help burn down the city.

As he takes off his sunglasses, he is clearly sporting a shiny silver arm – Silverhand's trademark cybernetic augmentation.

Speaking on stage at E3, Reeves said he was fascinated by what the video game's publisher, CD Projekt RED, was making and had to be a part of the project.

"The feeling of walking the streets of the future is really going to be breathtaking," he added, to rapturous applause.
