Israeli spacecraft fails to make successful moon landing

The Israeli spacecraft Beresheet reached the moon on Thursday but its planned controlled or “soft,” landing failed, the support team said.

The spacecraft had a number of technical problems during its final descent to the lunar surface, according to the team, which led to the apparent crash, though team members didn’t use that word.

The goal of the mission was to take pictures and conduct experiments on the lunar surface.

Only government space agencies from the former Soviet Union, the US and China have launched successful moon landings.
