Instagram app not working for you right now? Don’t worry, it’s not your phone …or your home Wi-Fi connection. Tens of thousands of frustrated Instagram users are experiencing issues with the popular iPhone and Android app. Instagram fans flooded rival social networks, like Twitter, to complain about the problems with the photo-based service when it stopped working in the UK, Europe and the United States at around 10.25pm BST tonight (April 8, 2021).
Instagram users have been left unable to refresh the main feed or post new photos or videos. Pulling down on the main screen within the Instagram app, which usually refreshes your feed with the latest posts from accounts you’re following, currently only returns the error message “Couldn’t Refresh Feed”. Instagram has offered no further explanation for the issues.
The issues with Instagram seemed to be tied to similar problems suffered by other Facebook properties, including its Messenger chat app. The main Facebook social network is also not working for thousands across the globe. It’s unclear exactly what is behind the mass outage taking place, which has impacted Instagram users in the UK, mainland Europe, and parts of the United States. However, on Facebook, some users are being told it has to do with “Error Code 1”.
Instagram services go down across UK and Europe
Independent website DownDetector, which keeps tabs on the performance of online services by tracking reports of any problems across social media, has clocked up thousands of complaints from Instagram users. Within minutes of the first reports, more than 50,000 people were flooding social media with complaints about the problems with Instagram. Using the geolocation data linked with these tweets, DownDetector is able to location of people reporting issues.
