How to find Zoom's hidden beauty filter and save your video calls

As the world hunkers down amid the coronavirus onslaught, many companies are turning to home working and video conferencing to keep in touch.

One of the biggest apps when it comes to video conferencing is Zoom, which has seen its usage skyrocket over the last couple of weeks as millions more people are now working remotely.

But days of isolation may be taking its toll and perhaps because of this, Zoom includes a special hidden filter called ‘Touch Up My Appearance’. So we can all dispense with the makeup, forget brushing our hair and stay in the same hoodie all week.

Zoom describes the effect as ‘a softening effect to skin to minimize the visibility of imperfections.’ Which is basically a beauty filter for our new working environment.

‘The Touch Up My Appearance option retouches your video display with a soft focus,’ the company writes. ‘This can help smooth out the skin tone on your face, to present a more polished looking appearance when you display your video to others.’

Alternatively, if you’ve already started a meeting you can click the arrow next to the video icon and choose Video Settings – you’ll find it in there.

Zoom says it remembers your preferences so if you turn it on, it’ll remember and have it activated next time you log in for a meeting.
