Google's 'budget' feature wants to help you curb your indiscriminate spending

If you regularly find yourself staring at a bank statement full of digital payments for apps, songs, ebooks or games then you may be interested in a new feature Google has in the works.

It’s going to start letting Android users set themselves a budget within the Google Play store to try and make sure they keep spending under control.

Somewhat ineffectually, it doesn’t appear that the budget will actually cap your purchases. Instead, you’ll just get an alert when you’re approaching it – or when you’ve blown past it.

A lot like its digital wellbeing options, this seems to be a way for Google to offer ways for users to improve their mobile experience – but only if they choose to do so.

As the company notes on its explainer page: ‘Setting a budget won’t stop you from actually buying the item.’
