Google Photos has a new feature you probably can’t use

Google Photos only launched back in 2015 but it’s already become one of the the most important offerings in the tech giant’s software constellation. The app is used by hundreds of millions of people that leverage its cloud storage to keep their precious memories safe. Google has long catered to users that want physical versions of their photos. Jumping into the Google Photos app on iOS and Android can allow you to put together a brimming photo album in minutes. And, back in September, Google also added the ability to order large canvas prints using Photos.

Now, the American tech giant is trailing a new monthly subscription plan for Google Photos that will send you 10 photo prints every month, ensuring you always have a physical version of your favourite moments.

According to blog 9to5Google, the “monthly photo prints” will be “automatically selected from your last 30 days of photos”. Although not confirmed, this feature will almost certainly use artificial intelligence (AI) or an algorithm to determine the photos you’re most fond of.

That said, Google has clarified users will have the option to edit their photos before they’re printed.

The Mountain View firm explained: “Each month, 10 of your photos that fit your selected theme will be automatically chosen.

“Don’t worry, you can always edit your selection before they’re printed each month.”

Users can choose between three themes for their monthly prints to help give Google an idea of the photos you want to see every month. They are the following:

Mostly people and pets: Relive your best moments of people and pets. Get prints featuring them and other great photos every month.

Mostly landscapes: Revisit your most memorable places. Get prints of your outdoor shots, city scapes, scenery pics, and more sent to you every month.

A little bit of everything: Mix it up! Get a mix of all your best moments! Photos of people, landscapes, and other photos delivered to you each month.

Right now Google is only trailing the feature in the US. So if you live in the UK and like the idea of putting new physical prints on your fridge every month, you’re out of luck.

It’s presumed if the subscription proves to be successful Google will roll it out to other territories.
