Google Chrome could soon make it extremely easy to share web pages with friends, family members or co-workers. A new flag has been discovered in Canary – an experimental version of Chrome – that seems set to allow users to create a QR code for certain pages.
Once the QR code has been scanned by another device, it’s expected the web page in question will be displayed.
First discovered by TechDows, the new feature was shown to be accessed by right-clicking on a particular page.
The sharing functionality seems to be in the works for Windows, Mac, Linux and Chrome OS. It’s currently unclear if it’ll also make its way to iOS and Android.
Although you can view the feature if you head to the Chrome://flags page and search for “Enable Share page via QR code”, it doesn’t actually work at the moment.
It’s currently unclear when its functionality will go live in Canary and when all users will be able to take advantage of it in a stable build of Chrome.
The new feature certainly seems specifically designed to share certain pages with other people, rather than other gadgets you own.
Chrome already has an option to send pages directly to connected devices. This can similarly be accessed by right-clicking on a page and pressing “send to your devices”.
Once you’ve chosen a product in question, say an Android smartphone for instance, you’ll then receive a notification on the targeted device. Tapping this will send you straight to the shared site.
This feature was added in Chrome version 77 that released back in September.
The discovery of the new feature comes ahead of Chrome 79’s debut that’s expected on December 10.
