Galaxy Note 9 update – Samsung’s next phablet may be a major disappointment for one reason

Galaxy Note 9 was unwrapped by Samsung in August and it is expected its successor will arrive at around the same time in 2019.

Ahead of the hardware’s anticipated reveal, the Note 10 appears to have been plagued by outings that may have disclosed some of its new features.

The most notable of which has suggested the Note 10 will not arrive in a single model, but will instead launch in four.

Two flavours of the Note 10 have been tipped to come with a 6.28-inch display while another pair have been speculated to have a huge 6.75-inch panel.

For each screen size, a variant with 5G capabilities has been declared to launch.

Alleged renders of the smaller Note 10 recently surfaced courtesy of OnLeaks and 91Mobiles; the hardware was showcased with an all-screen design but had a cutout for its front-facing camera system positioned in the middle of its screen at the top.

This marks a change from the Galaxy S10 series that placed its respective hole punches off to the side.

Note 10 was also claimed to be the first Samsung flagship to oust the age-old 3.5 millimetre headphone jack.

Such a move would follow in the footsteps of other OEMs such as Apple, OnePlus and Huawei.

Most notably, the Note 10 was displayed to have a triple-camera system on its rear, similar to what is already present on the Galaxy S10 and S10+.

Renowned tipster Ice Universe has suggested the larger version of the handset will be dubbed the “Note 10 Pro” and will tout an additional time-of-flight sensor on its rear, taking its camera tally up to four.

While its seems Samsung’s Note series is braced for a radical camera overhaul, it seems the handset may not differ much from the Galaxy S10 series where photography is concerned.

Ice Universe has stated the Note 10 will be the last Samsung device to come with its esteemed 1/2.55-inch 1.4um CMOS camera module, the same as found in the Galaxy S10 and Note 9.

Moreover, the leaker declared next year’s Galaxy S11 will “adopt a new large-size large-pixel CMOS” that would presumably be capable of capturing better quality snaps.

Plus, it was noted Samsung has “developed and mass produced” a camera module with a five-times optical zoom, as is present on the P30 Pro for instance, but this will not arrive for its flagship devices.

Finally, the leaker also disclosed the South Korean tech giant once had a “10-times optical zoom phone project” in the works but this was later scrapped because “it is too thick and doesn’t look like a phone”.

Such statements imply the Note 10 may not boast any major zooming upgrades.

This, combined with the rumours the new phablet may tout a triple and quad camera array like the S10 and S10 5G respectively, suggest Samsung fans craving a huge camera improvement may be disappointed.

However, it is worth noting while rumours are in full swing surrounding the Note 10, nothing about such a product has been officially confirmed by Samsung.
