Fortnite servers are back up as season 6 launches – here’s what’s in the update

Fortnite season 6 is finally here as the Darkness Rises update is rolled out.

The map will be updated with Epic promising floating islands and there are also pets, which will apparently "watch your back" as you’re dropping in to the game.

As well as the floating island there are corrupted areas, corn fields and a haunted castle.

One of the more interesting updates is related to matchmaking. PS4 players using a keyboard and mouse will now be playing alongside those with a PC. This is to stop them having an unfair advantage over controller users.

New Shadow Stones give players the ability to take a Shadow Form. While using this consumable you’ll be invisible while stationary and unable to use weapons. You’ll find these in the corrupted areas.

You’ll get a new Phase ability through which propels you in the direction your facing and allows you to pass through objects. You’ll also gain movement speed and jump height while immune to fall damage.

There are some adjustments to certain weapons too. The Grappler is reduced from 15 to 10 and Double Barrel has been nerfed too, it’s gone from 143/150 to 114/120.

The usual bug fixes and tweaks have also been applied to the game, many of which around the glitch Grappler.

The Nintendo Switch version of the game should also see much smoother gameplay and better quality graphics.

Also coming to the Save the World portion of the game is Riot Husky for players to battle.

As always a new season means 100 more levels and 100 new rewards are available. Fortnite season 6 costs 950 V-bucks which is around £8.

Fortnite boasted more than 78 million players in August and is making an estimated $2 million per day. The game has reportedly brought in over $1 billion for developer Epic Games so far.
