Ford and Tesla square up over Cybertruck tug-of-war boast from Elon Musk

Tesla’s Cybertruck launch was full of notable moments – like the supposedly armored windows being smashed with steel balls.

But in an effort to prove the Cybertruck’s credentials, the launch event also showed it playing tug-of-war with a Ford F150 pickup truck.

Ford, it seems, took issue with Tesla’s video of the Cybertruck crushing the F150 in a contest.

Replying to a Twitter thread from Tesla boss Elon Musk and physicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, a Ford vice president squared up to the electric carmaker’s claims.

Sunny Madra challenged Tesla to offer a real contest between its Blade Runner vehicle and the famed Ford pickup truck.

For his part, Elon Musk seemed to relish the challenge.

‘Bring it on,’ he tweeted back.

While this is most likely just executives having some playful jabs over Twitter (something Musk is no stranger too) we can’t help but wonder.

Wouldn’t it be an idea to see Ford step up to the Cybertruck on its own turf?

The Cybertruck appears to be a huge hit already, with the Tesla boss claiming 200,000 units have already been preordered.

‘With no advertising and no paid endorsement,’ he tweeted.

Elon Musk unveiled the latest Tesla electric vehicle at a special event in California.

It’s an angular, gunmetal grey beast that’s been likened to a low polygon-count car from an old video game.

As far as the specs go, the entry-level model will manage 250 miles on a single charge while the middle-tier option increases that to 300 miles.

The most premium version will manage 500 miles.

The prices for the different models are $39,900, $49,900, and $69,900 respectively.
