Facebook Messenger has launched new ‘soundmojis’ that accompany a regular emoji with a sound effect.
Your chats are about to get a lot louder.
If, for example, you receive a soundmoji of clapping hands, you’ll get the noise of applause ringing out from your phone.
Or if someone drops a snare drum emoji into a chat, you’re going to hear the unmistakable sound of a drum roll.
A soundmoji of crickets chirruping can also be dropped when someone makes an unfunny joke.
The new soundmojis are timed to coincide with World Emoji Day on July 17.
‘We’re launching an entire soundmoji library for you to choose from, which we’ll update regularly with new sound effects and famous sound bites,’ said Loredana Crisan, VP of Messaging Products at Facebook Messenger in a blog post.
‘Each sound is represented by an emoji, keeping the visual emojis we all love in play, while bringing sound into the mix. Best of both worlds!’
How do I use a soundmoji on Facebook Messenger?
To check out Soundmojis, head to your Messenger app, start a chat and tap the smiley face option.
That will open the expressions menu and from there you can select the loudspeaker icon.
After that, you can preview and send your favorite soundmojis through the chat.
‘We love creating fun and innovative features that keep people connected and give them freedom to express themselves,’ Crisan said.
‘And just in time for World Emoji Day, we’re excited for you to check them out.’
