Facebook bans woman for ‘bullying’ after she compares herself to a ‘potato’

A woman was banned from Facebook after commenting that she 'looked like a potato' on one of her own pictures.

Claire Sharp posted the comment under one of her own pictures, with moderators banning her believing her to be trolling someone on the website.

Now she's facing a 30-day ban from the platform.

Claire took to Twitter to express her exasperation at the surprising decision.

In her post, she shared a screenshot of the message she wrote to Facebook's moderators appealing the block.

Answering the question "how did Facebook get the decision wrong?", the message read: "The comment I made was in relation to myself. It was joking that I needed as many sequins on my dress as possible because I already look like a potato.

"It was a self-deprecating comment and in no way bullying someone else."

She added, wryly: "Unless you're suggesting I'm bullying potatoes. Or myself?"

Fortunately Claire saw the funny side, replying to a friend who commented on her tweet: "I never knew they were so touchy. Bet it was a Maris Piper that reported my comment. They look the sort"

In a thread featuring many potato-based puns, @MandiG72 saw the debacle and replied: "WTF?! Just go and get mashed and show them what’s what!"

But Claire was not amused, replying: "I don’t think it’s nice that you’re joking when the chips are down for me", prompting Mandi to accept her "roasting".

Facebook bans users for posting content it deems to be inappropriate for the platform.

This can include things promoting or inciting violence, as well as content which is illegal such as trying to sell drugs.

Users can also face bans for posting content harassing other users.

For Claire however, the ban appears only to be for a comment made against herself, making the claims that it is "bullying" questionable at best.
