‘Embarrassing’ Trump social network doesn’t work – even his wife won’t use it

Former US President Donald Trump has launched his long-awaited social media platform 'Truth Social—but it's not going very well so far.

The app is reportedly plagued with glitches and is forcing users onto waiting lists, telling them it might not be fully operational until March.

What's more, Trump's wife Melania has reportedly signed up for a 'special arrangement for her social media communications at far-right social network Parler, meaning even she isn't interested in using her husband's new platform.

Despite greeting most users with a 'page not found error', the app has shot up to the top of the iOS App Store as curious users try to see what the fuss is all about.

Trump made his first post on Truth Social prior to its launch. He said: "Get ready! Your favorite president will see you soon". While Trump had the most Twitter followers in the world prior to his ban, he currently has a few thousand on Truth Social.

Billed as a 'free speech' alternative to mainstream social media, Truth Social was announced by Trump shortly after he was banned from Twitter for inciting a violent insurrection at the US Congress in January 2021.

It is primarily designed to be a 'safe space' for users banned from moderated social media platforms, especially those who have expressed far-right or extremist beliefs.

The platform is also identical to Twitter, with the sole difference between that tweets are called 'truths' and retweets are called 'retruths'.

According to analysts, Trump told around 30,573 lies during his time as President, with half of those in the final year of his term.
