Elon Musk's Neuralink to reveal big news about bid to plug brains into computers

Elon Musk is one of the most famous doom-mongers in the world and fears humanity will be wiped out during an inevitable rise of the machines.

But he’s not just going to sit back and let the Terminators win, because the billionaire has already decided the best way to beat artificial intelligence is to ‘merge’ with it.

Last year, he said his company Neuralink was about to unveil a product which could make us ‘superhuman’ by allowing humans to become ‘symbiotic’ with technology.

But tomorrow at 3am UK time (8pm pacific) Neuralink will finally reveal what it’s been up to.

In a simple message shared on Twitter, Neuralink wrote: ‘We’re having an event on Tuesday in San Franciscio to share a bit about what we’ve been working on the last two years.’

Neuralink works on the development of ‘high bandwidth brain-machine interfaces to connect humans and machines’ so it’s likely the firm has made some progress with its plot to plug humans into The Matrix.

‘I think we’ll have something interesting to announce in a few months … that’s better than anyone thinks is possible,’ the Tesla CEO said on  the Joe Rogan Experience last year (before he started smoking weed).

‘Best case scenario, we effectively merge with AI.’

Whilst appearing on the show, Musk said humans are effectively cyborgs already due to relationships we have with our phone.

Plugging our brain into technology would allow a faster connection and massively boost our abilities

‘It will enable anyone who wants to have superhuman cognition,’ Musk added.

‘Anyone who wants.’

He added: ‘Your phone is already an extension of you. You’re already a cyborg.

‘Most people don’t realize you’re already a cyborg.

‘It’s just that the data rate … it’s slow, very slow.

‘It’s like a tiny straw of information flow between your biological self and your digital self. We need to make that tiny straw like a giant river, a huge, high-bandwidth interface.’

Musk has previously warned that AI could destroy humanity.

But whilst speaking to Joe Rogan, he offered the following survival tip: ‘The merge scenario with AI is the one that seems like probably the best. If you can’t beat it, join it.’

Neuralink is at the very early stages – and is centered on creating devices which can be implanted in the human brain.

Musk has hinted at his involvement in the research in the past, telling a crowd in Dubai in 2017: ‘Over time I think we will probably see a closer merger of biological intelligence and digital intelligence.’
