Elon Musk 'will be Twitter CEO' once £43 billion takeover is completed

Elon Musk is expected to serve as Twitter CEO once his £43 billion takeover of the social network is completed.

Musk already runs SpaceX and Tesla, but will add Twitter boss to his increasingly-crowded business card.

Sources speaking to CNBC said that Musk would only lead the company ‘for a few months’ while changes at the company are made.

That could mean bad news for Twitter’s current CEO Parag Agrawal, who only took over from outgoing co-founder Jack Dorsey in September.

Agrawal told employees during a town hall meeting last month that the future of Twitter is uncertain under Musk.

‘Once the deal closes, we don’t know which direction the platform will go,’ he said, according to Reuters.

Musk has been vocal about his wishes to make changes to Twitter and to turn the company private as soon as possible.

That would mean he doesn’t need to report to shareholders and can force through any changes he wants to make.

‘I’m definietly on the warpath,’ he said at a recent appearance at the Met Gala.

‘If somebody is operating a bot or troll army then I am definietly their enemy.’

The billionaire says he wants to use Twitter to promote free speech.

In a statement, Musk said: ‘Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated.

‘I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spam bots, and authenticating all humans.

‘Twitter has tremendous potential – I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.’
