EE boost: More customers offered the ultimate smartphone upgrade

EE was the first UK network to launch its 5G – albeit with just a small number of places able to access these super-fast speeds at first. However, since it was switched on back in May, the firm has slowly rolled out coverage in more areas. And now it’s made another big 5G announcement.

From today, those living in 21 more towns and cities nationwide will be able to access the faster downloads, lower latency and greater bandwidth afforded by EE 5G. With the latest upgrade, EE 5G now operates in more places in the UK than any other mobile operator.

EE has added 5G to Bath, Birkenhead, Clydebank, Motherwell and Rotherham and switched on its first 5G sites in Bransholme, Bury, Chelmsford, Cheshunt, Clevedon, Dartford, Dinnington, Loughborough, Loughton, North Shields, Rochester, Rugeley, Swadlincote, South Shields, Staines and Waltham Cross.

This takes the total to 71 locations.

As well as switching on the first 5G sites in new cities and large towns, EE has also brought 5G to more footfall stadiums, including Bath’s Royal Crescent and Pulteney Bridge, London Bridge and Thornton Heath railway station in London.

Speaking about 5G, BT consumer division CEO Marc Allera said: “We have 5G coverage in more places than any other operator, and remain focused on connecting even more towns and cities in 2020 and beyond to keep our customers connected in the busiest places.”

5G is the future of smartphones with it able to offer quicker downloads and allow more people to connect at one time which is vital at busy train stations and stadiums.

On a recent test, Express.co.uk was able to download files at over 300Mbps which is considerably faster than most home broadband.

It worth remembering that to access these speeds you will need a 5G-ready smartphone.

Many manufacturers, including Samsung, Sony and OnePlus, have made a big commitment to 5G with all of their new devices featuring this tech but there’s still no word from Apple when it might launch its first 5G iPhone.

If you have a 5G device in your pocket then here are all locations where EE’s 5G is now live.
