Cheltenham Festival tips: County Hurdle trends – we help you find the winner of the race live on ITV at 2.10pm today

COUNTY HURDLE TRENDS:

  • Five and six-year-olds fare best
  • 10 of past 12 winners were rated 132-139
  • Last-time winners have a poor record
  • Stay below 11st 4lb as a rule
  • Favourites have poor record

BUILDMEUPBUTTERCUP sounds good in the County Hurdle.

Although an older horse won last time we’ll stick with the strong trend for five and six-year-olds. So Aramon, Mohaayed, Pakens Rock, Moon Over Germany, Oakley, Le Ligerien, Rathhill, You Raised Me Up, Minella Charmer and Sir Valentine all go.

Generally, you want to stay at 11st 4lb or lower so Eldorado Allen, Embittered, Christopher Wood and Stolen Silver have something to do.

Although Willie Mullins has a strong record, horses that won last time out certainly don’t which is a negative for Saint Roi.

Most winners of this have experience of Flat racing. That is not the case for Adjali, Zanza, Ciel De Neige, Thatsy and Elusive Belle.

So that leaves six still standing according to the stats — Scaramanga, Buildmeupbuttercup, Tiger Tap Tap, Beat The Judge, Tiger Voice and Lethal Steps.

Given the good record of Willie Mullins with four winners since 2010, it’s worth taking a close look at his runners with BUILDMEUPBUTTERCUP getting the nod.

He has his quirks but goes well in a big field and has a live each-way chance.
