Deepfake video imagines Will Smith in The Matrix instead of Keanu Reeves

From The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to Men In Black, Will Smith has starred in many iconic films and TV programmes over the last 30 years.

Now, one fan has re-imagined Smith as Neo in The Matrix in place of Keanu Reeves , using deepfake technology.

Smith famously turned down the lead role in the science-fiction blockbuster, as he didn’t share the Wachowskis’ vision of the film.

Speaking earlier this year, Smith said: “So after we made Men in Black, the Wachowskis came in and they had only done one movie. I think that movie was called Bound.

“And they came in and made a pitch for The Matrix. And as it turns out, they’re geniuses!

“But there’s a fine line in a pitch meeting between genius and what I experienced in the meeting.”

To create the video , YouTuber Sham00K used DeepFaceLabs – a tool that uses machine learning to replace faces in videos.

While this deepfake is simply a bit of fun, concerns have been raised about the technology, and how it could be abused.

Last year, several deepfake porn videos emerged online, appearing to show celebrities such as Emma Watson, Gal Gadot and Taylor Swift in explicit situations.

Deepfakes have also been used to depict high-profile figures such as Donald Trump , Barack Obama and Mark Zuckerberg making inflammatory statements.
