Creepy phone case is covered in artificial skin that users can stroke and tickle

A creepy phone case made from artificial human skin has been revealed, just in time for Halloween .

Researchers from Telecom Paris have created the strange case, which responds to touches including tickles, strokes and pinches.

On the project website , Marc Teyssier, who led the project, explained: “Skin-On Interfaces are sensitive skin-like input methods than can be added to existing devices to increase their capabilities.

“When we interact with others, we use skin as interfaces. However the objects of mediated communication – such as the smartphone – still has a cold interface that doesn't allow natural interaction and input.

“In this project, I wanted to make available the perfect human interface that is the skin for existing devices.”

The bizarre case comes in two forms – one with a basic, uniform surface, and one with an eerily realistic skin-like surface.

This artificial skin is made of a layer of stretchable copper wire, which sits between two layers of silicone.
