WhatsApp coronavirus Christmas connectivity tips:

Synchronise presents over a video call – with up to 8 participants

With families celebrating apart in 2020, there is even more of a need for us to stay connected this Christmas.

WhatsApp said: “It is easy to get the whole family on a video call while opening your presents so you don’t miss the look on your grandchildren’s, siblings’, mum’s or dad’s face when they open THAT present they’ve wanted all year.”

To start a call, tap the calls tab at the bottom of your screen and then press the call icon in the top right corner or your screen.

Next tap ‘New Group Call’ and then simply add up to seven of your loved ones from your contacts list and then let the unwrapping commence.

Show you care with a long voice note – and ‘lock it’ to free up your thumbs while you talk

WhatsApp said: “This lesser-known tip is perfect for those looking to send something more personable this Christmas – or for when you have a Christmas Day story that is too good to type out.”

If you press and hold the microphone icon, and then slide your thumb up it ‘locks’ the note; allowing users to speak for as long as they want, until hitting send or ‘cancel’ for a do-over.

Keep your nearest and dearest updated on your day with Status:

WhatsApp said: “Keep those who you value most in your WhatsApp updated on what you’ve been eating, drinking, opening, watching, listening to by capturing your Christmas on WhatsApp’s Status feature.

To set you Status, click the Status tab click the camera if you wish to add a photo or video or click the pen to add text.

Then, once your Status update is composed to perfection, simply tap send for all your closest friends and family to see what you are up to.
