A sneak peek at Apple’s first virtual reality (VR) headset may have just emerged. Apple fans have long been waiting for the tech giant’s upcoming product, potentially dubbed Reality Pro. The project has been shrouded in secrecy, sparking a frenzy of rumours and speculation about its details.
But if many of the rumours are true, Apple’s VR headset could become one of the most exciting new products on the market.
Like much of the information surrounding the innovation, the latest leaks are just as elusive. But if you are intrigued by the prospect of stepping outside physical reality, you may not want to ignore the latest snippet of information that has just surfaced.
The leaks came from photos posted by MrWhite128, a protected Twitter account, which were later reposted by MacRumors and 9to5Mac.
They show what look to be ribbon cables that could perfectly slot into a set of eye-shaped goggles.
But it is hard to tell from the images what exactly the cables would do apart from connect the left and right sides of the headset.
Another picture appears to show a cable with three bulbous sections, which may be some kind of sensor or camera array.
However, these leaks might need to be taken with a pinch of salt.
It is important to note that MrWhite never explicitly states that the images posted online are in fact components of an Apple VR headset.
It was only other people who suggested that the components were linked to the Apple product.
But in the run-up to its expected to launch, it is likely that more leaks of the Apple product will keep emerging as excitement builds.
A launch is expected later this year – possibly at Apple’s WWDC Developers Confernenc in June – with the product expected to come with a staggering amount of new technology. This ranges from dual 4K displays to a flexible OLED screen right in front of users’ eyes.
There has also been talk of the upcoming headset having colour-passthrough capabilities, meaning you will be able to see the real world outside of it.
This could see it rival Meta’s Quest Pro VR Headset, which goes for a hefty £1,499.00 from Curry’s.
It is thought that Apple’s first VR headset will cost around $3,000 (£2484.51).
Like the challenges faced by Microsoft and Meta, the large price tag could threaten to put consumers off too.
But Apple will be trying to bring something new to the table, which is why people familiar with the upcoming product pinpoint its eye- and hand-tracking capabilities as a major selling point, Bloomberg reports.
Apple has also reportedly outlined a vision for a headset that can be worn all day and everywhere. This could even see it replace some of the current technologies which dominate our lives, like laptops and even phones.
It is also thought that the product will have more than a dozen cameras that can perform an analysis of the wearer’s body, eye movements and the external environment.
However, there are also some expected downsides.
These include its short two-hour battery life per charge and its limited ability to work well outdoors. Some have also suggested that it will feature a design that may be uncomfortable.
