Zak Hardaker can help Wigan win title this season – despite drugs ban

The troubled star starts training with the Warriors today ahead of the end of his 14-month suspension for taking cocaine in November.

Coach Shaun Wane says the full-back, who can play next season, will be doing every session apart from the captain’s run the day before a game.

And skipper Sean O’Loughlin believes the now former England man, 26, will bring something else to their arsenal as they look to lift the title this season.

He said: “Even though he’s not involved playing wise, he’ll definitely bring something to training.

“When you’ve been in an environment like this for so long, a sporting environment, to have that taken away from you is a big void.

“He’ll be buzzing to get back involved and keeping himself busy, that’ll probably bring something to us. His excitement and energy will bring something to sessions which will only benefit us.

“He’s a good character, off the pitch as well he’s a good lad to be around but some of the boys will learn a lot from him.

“Wherever he’s played, whether it’s full-back, centre or in the halves, his games have been good and he’ll be a good asset to the side and a good player to have around the place.”

Meanwhile, David Furner won the race to be the man to drag Leeds from the low of this season and get them back to rugby league’s summit.

And the new boss is likely to want to bring Catalans Dragons’ scrum-half Josh Drinkwater with him after a helping hand turned into a job!

The former player has signed a three-year deal to take charge of the Rhinos from next season. Now the South Sydney Rabbitohs assistant, who will have Tonga ace Tui Lolohea to call on, is set to draw up a list of players he wants in at Headingley – and Drinkwater is believed to be on it.
