WWE news: Paul Heyman drops surprise CM Punk bombshell days after SummerSlam

The duo worked together during the 39-year-old’s impressive 434-day run as world champion from 2011 to 2013.

But the superstar had a bitter exit from WWE in 2014 that ended in Punk winning a court case against the company this summer.

Since his departure Paul Heyman has joined forces with Brock Lesnar, who now also looks set to leave the wrestling company to return to UFC.

Heyman, who created the hugely-popular ECW in the 90s, was believed to have remained friends with Punk – but he insists he is unsure whether the outspoken ace will return to WWE after his flop in UFC as they are no longer in contact.

Speaking to WFAN radio’s Benigno & Roberts, Heyman said: “I don’t text him at all. And… in this business I’ve learned never to presume that someone’s not coming back, but if anybody’s not coming back, he’s the exception that defines the rule.”

Meanwhile, Heyman helped Lesnar to surpass Punk’s stunning record run as champion.

And he believes The Beast’s 504-day reign, which ended at SummerSlam, was a lot better despite Lesnar only defended the strap 11 times.

FIVE THINGS The biggest talking points from an action-packed SmackDown Live

He added: “What was the stock when CM Punk was the champion? What’s the stock now?

“I have news for everybody. I know this will come as a shock. I know this is the type of news… fans hate to hear. Ready? It’s a business. It’s a business.

“So the stock, when CM Punk was champion was, what? 19? 20? 21? The stock is now at 80! $80 per share.

“Who was the main event of WrestleMania? Who is the main event of SummerSlam? Who’s the most featured performer? Who’s on all the billboards? Who’s on all the posters? Who right now has an advocate speaking for him on WFAN? Brock Lesnar.

“Stock’s at 80. Obviously something is being done that is correct.”
