WWE news: British wrestling star Trent Seven aims to continue Wolverhampton's sporting buzz in NXT UK

British duo Trent Seven and Tyler Bate produced a match of the year contender in their unsuccessful attempt to reclaim the NXT tag belts against Undisputed Era at last week’s Takeover.

The veteran of the team is Wolverhampton-born Seven, 37, and he is proving to be the ideal mentor to 21-year-old Bate, who hails from Dudley.

And the duo are hoping to not only have gold around their waists again soon, but to be the leading faces of the newly-launched UK series.

Speaking exclusively to SunSport, Seven said: “The NXT tag titles are still firmly in our sights. We’ve held them once, and what a privilege it was winning them at the Royal Albert Hall, a moment we’ll never forget.

“We’ve got a taste for the gold now and we’ll definitely continue to try and chase it. We’re big strong boys and we’ll come back. Performing in Brooklyn has only ignited the fire.

“We have a lot on our plates in the US and building this brand, but the goal is to make this as big as we can.

“At the moment we have a real intimate relationship with the product as far as the size of the crowds goes, but as that builds hopefully one day we can look to do stadiums and much bigger venues.

“I can definitely foresee a major WWE event coming to the British Isles in the very near future. So if we keep working hard and impressing we can play a part in that as it would be incredible.”

Seven, real name Benjamin Webb, has always been a keen sportsman.

His uncle Gerry O’Hara played football for Wolves during the 1970s – which led to the grappler developing a life-long affinity with the Molineux club.

Now he is hoping to capture the imagination of Wolverhampton’s sport fans in his own way.

He said: “I was a keen footballer. My uncle used to play for Wolves in the late 70s and early 80s so football was always a very heavy part of my life growing up.

“I played competitively until I was 18 or 19 and I was also a keen cricketer and golfer – so I’ve always been a sporty person and a bit of a jack of all trades.

“I always look out for the Wolves result and it’s been incredible the past year getting back to the Premier League.

“There’s a completely different buzz around the city and hopefully I can now capture the wrestling fans hearts and help to continue that boost it my own way.”
