'Worst penalty ever' – Chelsea fans in shock after Jorginho's horror spot-kick threatened to throw away West Ham win

JORGINHO had his blushes spared by Christian Pulisic after the Chelsea midfielder missed a late penalty in the 1-0 win against West Ham.

The Blues scored a dramatic injury time winner at Stamford Bridge to extend their lead over fourth-placed Arsenal to five points.

It was a nervy end to the game for the hosts who were guilty of yet another below-par performance in front of their own fans.

And in the 87th minute they were handed the game on a plate when Hammers centre-back Craig Dawson was sent off for hauling down Romelu Lukaku inside the box.

Up stepped Jorginho, who was looking to score his tenth goal of the season, with all nine of his strikes this term coming from the penalty spot.

Just like Bruno Fernandes against Arsenal on Saturday, the Italian did his usual hop, skip and jump run-up, with his tame effort easily saved by Lukasz Fabianski.

Man City v Real Madrid – boost: Get Citizens at 25/1 or Real at 100/1 to win

The 30-year-old, who had his penalty saved by Jordan Pickford in the Euro 2020 final penalty shootout, has missed two spot-kicks on the international stage this term.

He was denied by Switzerland goalkeeper Yann Sommer in Italy's World Cup qualification clash in September.

Jorginho then blazed his shot high over the bar from 12 yards out in their next encounter in December which saw Italy miss out on automatic World Cup qualification.

After Italy's loss in their play-off against North Macedonia, Jorginho declared those missed penalties will haunt him for the rest of his life.

And after his latest missed penalty, Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness slammed his attempt from the spot.

He said: "It's pathetic. It's bouncing before it gets to the goalkeeper. I mean, that's an example of how to take a penalty. There's no conviction.

"I'll just pass it into the net, centre of goal. It's easy for the goalkeeper to save it. Poor penalty.

"That was going to bounce twice before it got to the goalkeeper."

Fans were also quick to slam the ex-Napoli ace on social media, as one tweeted: "Think that might be the worst penalty I’ve ever seen."

Another commented: "Remember when Jorginho was the best penaltytaker in the world?"

A third added: "Jorginho penalty was one of the s******* ever inflicted on our eyes."

This fan then remarked: "Jorginho with the worst penalty of the season."

Meanwhile one simply stated: "Jorginho should never be allowed to take another penalty again."

Another quipped: "Jorginho’s somehow just taken a penalty that was worse than Bruno’s yesterday."
