From national leaders to hometown sheroes, the USA TODAY Network is launching a series of live storytelling events about powerful women as part of a sweeping, year-long look at the 100th anniversary of women’s right to vote.

As the country marks this milestone, 14 newspapers across the United States will host live storytelling series in each city that will feature compelling personal stories from women about the ways in which they’re continuing the work of enfranchisement put in motion by the 19th Amendment.

“Women like Oprah, Sonia Sotomayor and Billie Jean King inspire us,” said Megan Finnerty, founder and director of the Storytellers Project and Storytellers Brand Studio, part of Gannett and the USA TODAY Network, “but local women empower us.”

The live storytelling series complements a larger project, “Women of the Century” that aims to “inspire women, girls and their allies to work toward a better America,” according to an article published in USA TODAY and USA TODAY Network news sites.
